The Play It Smart Program came to New Brunswick at the start of the 2000-2001 school year with the hiring of Academic Coach Laurie Lazovick.

The Program was overwhelmingly successful, and earned the ardent support of administration and the Board of Education.

In 2002, New Brunswick became the first district to hire a full-time Academic Coach.

The Program continued to show results, and in 2006 the Board of Education expanded the Program by hiring Academic Coach Sarah Gallo.

The Program now reaches students who participate in:

Football

Boy's and Girl's Basketball

Boy's and Girl's Cross Country

Girl's Track and Field
